The IP SCHOOL(Master of Intellectual Property) program at Hongik University was launched in 2010. It is the nation’s first program sponsored by the Korean Intellectual Property Office to train IP experts with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the field of engineering, design, business management, and law.

The 21st century can be described as a society founded on knowledge. It is very important to know how to create, utilize, and protect IP, and human resources development is the way to achieve this goal. Hongik IP SCHOOL is set to establish an education system that can accommodate new emerging values and knowledge in order to become a leader in the field of IP with a mission of making Korea an IP power.

Today, the globalization is evident with limitless competition worldwide. It is not sufficient to pursue the first and the best within the country if we want to catch up with the world’s renowned school, but rather we have to strive forward to be competitive globally through challenges and revolutions. To meet such demands of the times, Hongik IP SCHOOL will not stop giving its support and enthusiasm to developing a better education system and environment at a global level.

In order to train global IP experts with comprehensive knowledge who are needed in the country and industry, our MIP program at Hongik University has established the following education infrastructure:

First, Hongik’s MIP program is based on the interdisciplinary education system incorporating courses on engineering, design, business management, and law to train well-rounded IP experts who can analyze and solve problems thoroughly by creative and broad thinking. The program accepts students from various academic and practical backgrounds in order to achieve this goal.

Secondly, we provide IP related educational service by operating various practicums through the network of educational-industrial cooperations and by entering into MOU with professional IP organizations, research facilities and law firms domestically and internationally for the purpose of training personnel equipped with theory and practical skills that are needed in the actual field.

Thirdly, we are running various courses on globalization so as to train IP experts with global mind who can handle international dispute. We not only have dual degree programs with Suffolk University Law School and Indiana University Law School in US but also operate international scholarship programs such as international internship and research programs by entering into MOU with Cornell University CCTEC(Cornell Center for Technology Enterprise & Commercialization) in US, MIPLC(Munich Intellectual Property Law Center) in Germany, and the US IP Law Firm Stein, McEwen LLP, which lays foundational work for the globalized IP education system.

Fourthly, we provide customized educational services by running Pre-school for basic training and Summer School for in-depth training, inviting domestic and international experts and holding international conferences to comprehend in real time main global issues and trends, operating a Saturday Lunch talk program that can give hands-on experiences.

Hongik MIP team including all the professors and staffs will do its best to meet the demands of providing the best IP expert training program that exceeds any other program offered in other domestic and international universities with the pride of being the nation’s first IP training program selected by the Korean IP office.
